Anguria Reggiana PGI Protection Consortium affiliates make the association the place to exchange ideas, share research, help each other in their daily activities, with the aim of maintaining the very highest quality standards.
Anguria Reggiana watermelon growers for generations, who strive to keep ancient knowledge alive. Like the figure of the “spicador” (the detacher) who, by observing the plant, the colour of the rind and tapping the watermelons with his billhook, gives his approval to the harvest, only once the fruit has reached the right point of ripening.
Ethics, tradition and links with the local area are the values which all producers share.
The growing methods, refined thanks to centuries of experience and integrated with the right amount of innovation, follow these values. To which is added respect for the land with sustainable cultivation methods.
Integrated pest control, crop rotation, organic fertilisation, pollination with bees, water saving and the use of useful insects are among the fundamental principles of the production of Anguria Reggiana PGI watermelon.
